ISO 9001:2008 vs ISO 9001:2015
Historical reference — 2008/2015. This material explains an earlier revision. It is not a current transition checklist. Use the 2026 addendum for the latest update.
Historical comparison: 2008 and 2015
This lesson is historical background. It does not describe the current transition to ISO 9001:2026.
The 2015 revision introduced a management-system structure organized around context, leadership, planning, support, operation, performance evaluation and improvement. It emphasized process-based management and risk-based thinking, and used documented information terminology. The two neighboring correlation tables help locate subjects across the old editions; a correlation is not proof of identical requirements.
Do not use a 2008/2015 table as a current certification checklist. For the 2026 edition, continue to the new addendum and review the authorized final requirements.
Practice
Choose one old procedure reference. Identify its original edition, the current process it supports and the approved source needed to assess it. Preserve the original record as history while updating the current working instruction through document control.
