2026 Addendum 1 — Edition status and change map
COLABMO LEARNING · UPDATED 6 OCTOBER 2026
Edition status and change map
How to use this addendum. This is a practical learning supplement based on the official public sources linked below. It is not the full standard or an exhaustive clause-by-clause comparison. A licensed final ISO 9001:2026 copy was not available for this course update. Confirm exact wording, applicability and all gaps against your authorized final edition before declaring conformity. Draft, DIS and FDIS copies are background only. Exercises and suggested records are Colabmo teaching examples, not prescribed ISO forms.
Learning outcomes
- Identify the edition used for a requirement or audit criterion.
- Explain the main publicly confirmed changes without treating every useful practice as a new requirement.
- Separate the status of a standard from the status of an organization’s certificate.
ISO 9001:2026 is the current edition, published on 16 September 2026. Existing systems still build on customer focus, processes, risk-based thinking and continual improvement. The 2024 climate amendment is carried forward; it is not a new 2026 initiative. ISO highlights leadership, culture, ethics, strategy, risks and opportunities, awareness, and expanded explanatory guidance. ISO revision overview.
A focused map for your review
The following map summarizes selected public guidance. It is a starting point for a final-edition review, not a complete requirements checklist.
| Area | Publicly confirmed update | Original Colabmo review prompt |
|---|---|---|
| 5.1 / 5.2 / 7.3 | Leadership and awareness give greater attention to quality culture and ethical behaviour; policy alignment with context and strategy is reinforced. | What happens when delivery pressure conflicts with inspection evidence? Can staff explain the expected response? |
| 6.1 | Risk and opportunity actions are more clearly distinguished. | Does your planning identify an improvement worth pursuing, as well as failures to prevent? |
| Annex A | Expanded explanations support application. It is informative guidance. | Read the explanation with its related requirement; do not turn every example into a compulsory procedure. |

DNV also identifies culture references in 7.1.4, reinforced change planning in 6.3, and consolidation of the 2015 improvement provisions into the new 10.1. It reports updated terms in clause 3 and ISO 9000:2026 as the vocabulary reference. DNV technical overview.
Global ACI’s transition document identifies clearer documented-information wording; separate risk and opportunity action subclauses; change-effectiveness monitoring, communication and results review in 6.3; and explicit consideration of changed relevant interested-party needs in 9.3.2. Its Annex A is a certification-body declaration, which is different from the informative Annex A in ISO 9001. Global ACI transition requirements, section 3.
Keep the editions straight
| Material in this course | How to use it |
|---|---|
| 2015 foundation lessons | Learn the process logic and 2015 requirements. Clause numbers in those lessons refer to 2015 unless explicitly stated otherwise. |
| 2008/2015 correlation tables | Historical reference only. They are not a 2015/2026 crosswalk and do not establish current certification eligibility. |
| 2026 addendum | Use the public-source update and original exercises to prepare a gap review. Confirm the complete final requirements separately. |
| Your organization’s records | Keep actual issue dates, approval history and past audit criteria intact. Update current working references through normal control. |
Worked example: a misleading checklist
A buyer finds a 2008/2015 correlation table and changes every “2015” label to “2026.” That does not create a valid transition checklist. The table compares different editions and may omit changed requirements or carry obsolete numbering. The better approach is to retain the old table as history, obtain the final 2026 edition, record the comparison basis and review each affected process with its owner.
Practice — establish a reliable baseline
- List the standards, amendments, customer specifications and internal procedures currently used by one process.
- For each, record the edition, source, responsible owner, access location and review status.
- Flag draft sources and unresolved interpretations explicitly. A blank status is not evidence that a requirement was reviewed.
- Choose three course topics that need an edition-specific check before the next audit.
Self-check
Question: Does publication of a replacement standard mean every 2015 certificate became invalid on that day? Answer: No. Standard publication and certification transition are different events. Check the applicable transition arrangements and the certificate’s own status; see Addendum 4.
