Diggy Breiling
Quality, Operations & Technology Consultant
Diggy Breiling helps companies solve complex quality, engineering, manufacturing, ERP, and operational problems.
His background spans medical devices, avionics, ruggedized displays, optical bonding, embedded systems, quality systems, regulatory compliance, production operations, and ERP implementation. He has worked in FDA, ISO 13485, ISO 9001, AS9100, FAA, and EU MDR environments, supporting product development, process validation, risk management, supplier quality, CAPA, technical documentation, and regulatory approvals.
Diggy began repairing LCD displays in 1992 and enhancing them for avionics applications in 1994. His work in display optics led to his role as a co-inventor of the Super Bright Low Reflection liquid crystal display technology, with the original patent application filed in 1999 and U.S. Patent 6,181,394 granted in 2001.
In 2003, he founded Flat Panel Display Solutions (FPD Solutions), developing optical enhancement and ruggedization capabilities for demanding display applications. He sold the company to Primeview Display Inc. in 2010.
In 2012, Diggy stepped back from broader display-industry work under a ten-year non-compete that restricted his participation in the industry. He continued consulting at a limited level for Interactive Display Solutions (IDS) through 2021. IDS was initially part of Primeview. From 2012 to 2021, his work also included screen protectors and plasma deposition for hydrophobic and oleophobic coatings. He sold his screen-protector company in 2021.
Diggy entered the medical electrical-device field in 2016, joining Applied Medical, where he worked through 2022. He led a multidisciplinary engineering team developing and validating medical devices, including hardware and software for Voyant electrosurgical generators. He led coordination with independent testing laboratories for product safety testing, UL certification and CE marking, and worked with Regulatory Affairs on U.S. FDA 510(k) submissions and European MDD and MDR compliance activities.
Today, through Colabmo and FPD.DEV, Diggy brings practical senior-level support to companies that need technical leadership across engineering, quality, operations, suppliers, documentation and business systems.
Diggy is especially useful when the problem does not fit neatly into one department. He helps translate the issue, stabilize the process, document the system, and move the work forward.
Nonprofit & Professional Service
Diggy has also contributed to nonprofit industry and professional associations. He served on the OSEIA board of directors from 2004 to 2005 and as treasurer from 2005 to 2006. He later served as Vice President of Administration for APICS Orange County from 2011 to 2013. During his involvement with APICS, he also taught CPIM and CSCP classes.
Professional Certifications
Diggy currently holds the ASQ Certified Medical Device Auditor (CMDA) certification. He previously held ASQ certifications as a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB) and Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE).
